Renovation of the Genetics Department in the Okhmatdyt Hospital

Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialised Hospital in continuing its restoration and recovering from the damages done by the Russian terrorist attack. On 15 April, thanks to our membersand partners, Way of Hearts Foundation completed one of its largest projects: the restoration of the vital genetics department.

How the foundation helped

The fourth floor of the building was fully refurbished, which included:

• Major refurbishment of all rooms on the floor;
• Restoration of utilities (plumbing, electrical);
• Organisation of a staff area.
• The total amount of funds raised was 2.8 million UAH.

“This is currently the largest initiative by tWay of Hearts team, which lasted almost six months. Our members and partners are proud to contribute to therestoration of a place of this importance not only for Kyiv, but for the whole of Ukraine. We’re planning to continue our cooperation with the Okhmatdyt hospital – and therefore we call on socially responsibleUkrainian businesses to get involved,” said the fund’s head Yulia Ovcharenko.

Why this matters

The centre provides early accurate diagnosis for children, pregnant women and couples. The centre’s laboratory is the only state-run facility capable of conducting prenatal diagnosisof rare metabolic disorders and monitoring patient treatment – from all regions. Restoring the centre to full operation will significantly expand these capabilities.

Way of Hearts Foundation continues to implement projects with Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital: in 2022, thanks to the generosity of our members, partnersand other benefactors, the hospital was able to launch the neonatal screening centre. Then, in 2024, we  took our part in the renovation of the centre for rare diseases and gene therapy. Also, the Foundation provided our assistancein the restoration of the hospital’s 14th building.
