Support for the development of the Russia-Ukraine War Museum

The Buziv Academic Lyceum was effectively rebuilt from scratch following extensive damage in 2022. Children from the surrounding villages can now attend school every day.

During active stage of war in the Kyiv region in early 2022, the lyceum building was almost 80% destroyed. As a result of numerous direct hits from heavy weaponry, the roof was pierced, thefloors between storeys collapsed, windows and doors were blown out, and some classrooms were completely burnt out.

Despite the loss of the main building, teaching continued; lessons were moved to other premises and partly conducted online. Four years later, the restored Lyceum has finally reopened. It isnow a modern, accessible educational space with inclusive classes, well-equipped rooms, laboratories, sports and assembly halls, and, of course, a shelter that allows lessons to continue during air raid alerts.

How the Foundation helped

The Foundation supported the initiative of the headteacher, Serhii Kharitonchyk, to establish a War Museum in the Lyceum’s new premises and equipped it with suitable furniture and displaycases to house artefacts directly from 2022.

Why this matters

There are currently 417 pupils studying at the Lyceum – residents of five surrounding villages and internally displaced children. It has once again become a vital life hub for the Buzivcommunity – and we are delighted to be involved in preserving the history of this place and the residents’ memories of it.
