“WAY OF HEARTS” FOUNDATION COMPLETES THE RESTORATION OF BUILDING 13 AT OKHMATDYT
In the spring, representatives of the OKHMATDYT Children’s Hospital approached the Foundation for assistance with repairing the medical premises of Building 13, which had been damaged by missile attacks.
Building 13 houses the pediatric and infectious disease departments for younger children, as well as the pediatric endocrinology department. Children with severe conditions, including immunodeficiencies, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases and sepsis, are treated here.
HOW THE FOUNDATION HELPED
During the first stage, four wards and a shower room on the second floor were repaired. The work included replacing the linoleum, painting walls, ceilings, window reveals and radiators, updating switches, sockets and lighting, as well as carrying out cosmetic repairs in the shower room.
The next step was a comprehensive restoration of the first and second floor. The Foundation funded repairs to the wards, treatment room, bathrooms, shower room, corridor and other premises on the floor.
What was done:
- Wall and ceiling restoration: local surface repairs –shrinkage cracks, priming and painting of walls, ceilings, window reveals, pipes and interior doors.
- Floor repairs: restoration and reinforcement of the base, installation of fiberglass reinforcing mesh, laying of commercial-grade linoleum, welding of seams, and installation of profiles to finish the flooring along the walls.
- Electrical and lighting upgrades: removal of old light fixtures, replacement and installation of sockets, switches and LED lights. In the corridor, old wiring was also removed, cable channels and a surface-mounted electrical panel were installed.
- Shower room renovation: old shower trays and siphons were removed, and new ones installed and connected, sealing of joints, and installation of shower screens and PVC panels.
- Bathroom renovation: surface repairs and painting, as well as replacement of the suspended Armstrong-type ceiling in Bathroom No. 2.
- Treatment room renovation: wall preparation, cutting and installation of chipboard panels, finishing of window reveals, joints sealing, and fittings installation, a windowsill and decorative corner profiles.
- Engineering elements: replacement of ventilation grilles, cleaning and painting of radiators, and installation of thresholds and skirting boards in the corridor.
WHY IT MATTERS
Despite the ongoing war and the damage to the hospital, OKHMATDYT medical teams continue to provide daily care to children with serious illnesses. Restoring these premises helps provide appropriate and comfortable conditions for both young patients and medical staff.
